This booklet contains information extracted from the Quarter Sessions Order Books for the period 1678 to 1732 relating to men who were members of the armed forces.  Included are applications for County Pensions, information from examinations and other court proceedings, and names (sometimes with physical descriptions) of a number of impressed men. 

FULL TITLE:  The Bowyer Charity School, Denham, Bucks - Admissions and Discharges 1721-1839.

The Bowyer Charity School was established at Denham in 1720 by Sir William Bowyer and other charitable persons for instructing 30 poor children in reading, writing and accounts, in the principles of the Church of England, and in other learning 'proper and useful for their station'.  This booklet contains the names of those children listed in the minutes of the school between 1721 and 1839 together with any remarks pertinent to them or how the school was run.

FULL TITLE:  The Honour of Ampthill - Coroner's Buckinghamshire Notebook 1854-1878.

This booklet contains a transcription of some of the records kept by the Coroner for the Honour of Ampthill relating to inquests held in Buckinghamshire.  Each entry contains at least the date of the inquest, the name of the deceased, the parish in which the inquest was held and the verdict.  Most entries also contain the age of the deceased and some include the deceased's relationship to other named persons.  Also included in the notebook are details of deaths where an inquest was refused.  These usually contain the date of death, the name and age of the deceased, the relationship of the deceased to other named persons, a report of circumstances leading to the death and the name of the person who reported the death.  The final part of this publication includes some contemporary newspaper reports relating to some of the deaths.  Mostly these have been extracted from The Bucks Herald and other newspapers held at the Centre for Buckinghamshire Studies in Aylesbury and range from a two line entry found in the 'Death Notices' to almost two columns. Buckinghamshire parishes within the Honour were Bow Brickhill, Great Linford, Little Brickhill, Little Linford, Moulsoe, Newport Pagnell, North Crawley, Swanbourne, Stewkley and Wavendon.

FULL TITLE:  Buckingham Hundreds - Land Tax Assessments 1788.

This booklet contains a transcription of the Land Tax Assessments for the Borough and Three Hundreds of Buckingham compiled in July 1788.  Arranged by parish or hamlet, each record contains the name(s) of the proprieter(s) or landowner(s), the name of the occupier(s) and the amount due.  The Three Hundreds of Buckingham included the parishes of Addington, Adstock, Akeley, Barton Hartshorn, Beachampton, Biddlesden, Caversfield, Chetwode, Edgcott, Foscote, Gawcott, Hillesden, Leckhampstead, Lillingstone Dayrell, Maids Moreton, Marsh Gibbon, Padbury, Preston Bissett, Radclive cum Chackmore, Shalstone, Steeple Claydon, Stowe, Thornborough, Thornton, Tingewick, Turweston, Twyford, Water Stratford and Westbury and the hamlets of Bourton, Bourton Hold, Lenborough and Prebend End (in Buckingham), Charndon and Pounden (in Twyford) and Cowley (in Preston Bissett). 

The Poll Tax of 1694 was levied in order to fund a 'vigorous' war against France.  The basic rate, paid by most individuals aged sixteen and over, was four shillings per annum and was collected in four quarterly instalments.  This booklet contains a transcription of the lists of eligible persons within each parish and the amount they were to pay.  For some parishes this same list was used when collecting subsequent instalments, being suitably amended to include newcomers and exclude those who had left the parish or died.  Other parishes made supplementary lists of persons added and removed since the previous collection for each of the subsequent quarters.  Stoke Hundred comprises the Buckinghamshire parishes of Datchet, Denham, Eton, Fulmer, Hedgerley, Horton, Iver, Langley Marish, Stoke Poges, Upton cum Chalvey, Wexham and Wraysbury.  With the exception of Eton (with Eton College) all parishes are included in this transcription.

A collection of the bastardy case entries recoded in the surviving Petty Session Minute Books and papers for the Aylesbury Division of Buckinghamshire in the periods 1801 to 1807, 1834 to 1840, 1852 to 1863 and 1896 to 1899.  Each entry contains the date of the hearing, the name of the mother and putative father and the salient points arising from the hearing.  Most entries include the child's sex and date of birth.  The names of witnesses have also been included in some cases.  Aylesbury Division included the parishes of Aston Clinton with St. Leonards, Aston Sandford, Aylesbury with Walton, Bierton with Broughton, Buckland, Cuddington, Dinton, Drayton Beauchamp, Ellesborough, Great Hampden, Great Kimble, Great Missenden, Haddenham, Halton, Hartwell, Horsenden, Hulcott, Ilmer, Kingsey, Little Hampden, Little Kimble, Little Missenden, Monks Risborough, Princes Risborough, Stoke Mandeville, Stone, The Lee, Towersey, Wendover and Weston Turville.
